Below are some quotes about procrastination that I really like. Pick one and tell us how it applies to your art and life: (I love to get comments!)
Anyone can do any amount of work, provided it isn't the work he is supposed to be doing at that moment. ~Robert Benchley

ReplyDeleteThis is so true for me.
I have learned the hard way that if I want to get a job done I have to really put it in the calendar about WHEN I'll do this. Then I have to schedule a time with me to find out HOW I'll do this.
If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it. ~Olin Mille

I often think that if I had just done the job at hand right when it came up, it would be over and done with. And the thing is that usually I am procrastinating about simple, mundane things, not very hard jobs.
"A year from now you may wish you started today."
ReplyDeleteI think about this frequently. What if I had had the courage to pursue art right out of college? What if I began watercolor painting diligently 5 years ago when I first became interested? How good would I be now? Would I be making money from my work? What if I had learned to play piano as a child, when I really wanted to, instead of trying to fit time into my adult life to practice? Practice seems like a dirty word to me now. Back then, I just accepted it. I think it's because I feel my time left on this earth is more limited now. I don't have my entire life ahead of me. I want to be good right away. Does anybody else feel like this?
I like the Benchley quote. This is my greatest problem and I've always said I can do ANYTHING as long as it isn't what I'm supposed to be doing! I think I'm about to figure out a way to harness this little "shortcoming." I'll let you know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI have a comment on what Lynn said...
ReplyDeleteIn 5 years from now, this will be the past. Learn from your experiences and just do it!!!
Thanks, Summer Raven!
ReplyDeleteI had an epiphany this week after I wrote that. I am really going to get down to creating and PRACTICING. If I don't, I'll never achieve what I want to be. And time is only getting shorter as each day goes by...
Kimber,
We look forward to hearing how it goes. Keep us posted!
